It is built in BMW North American plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina alongside the BMW X5, which it shares the platform. It is called "Sports Activity Coupé (SAC) of BMW, and while slightly longer and wider than the X5, it is much lower and seats only four people. The concept of model 2007 is its debut at the Auto Show in Frankfurt. The production X6 officially debuted at 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and Montreal International Auto Show, respectively.
